Hot water from the sun, all year round.
A solar water heater covers most of a Moroccan household's hot water needs and cuts that expense by up to 75%. No more gas bottle running out halfway through a shower.

What you should know
- Capacity · 150 L for 2 to 3 people, 200 L for 4 to 5, 300 L beyond that or for two bathrooms
- 2026 price guide · Around 6,500 to 20,000 DH installed depending on capacity and technology, indicative
- Savings · Up to 75% of your hot water spend (estimate, depending on usage)
- Service life · More than 10 years with simple maintenance
- Technologies · Flat-plate thermosiphon, or closed loop recommended for hard water and frost-prone areas
One collector, one tank, job done.
The collector heats a fluid, the tank stores the heat: the water stays hot for the evening and the next morning.
Against gas, the math is shifting
The butane bottle stays cheap because it is subsidized, but its real price is far higher and subsidy reform is under way. The sun will never raise its rates.
Thermosiphon or closed loop
The thermosiphon, with no pump and no electronics, suits most regions. With very hard water or at altitude, the closed loop protects the tank and extends its life.
Gray days too
A built-in electric backup takes over automatically when several overcast days follow each other. You never have to think about it.
Frequently asked questions
What size solar water heater for a family of 5?
200 liters is the right starting point for 4 to 5 people. If the house has two heavily used bathrooms or you often have guests, the 300 liter model avoids lukewarm end-of-tank showers.
Is a solar water heater worth it compared with butane gas?
Against butane subsidized at 40 DH a bottle, payback takes years; against an electric water heater, it drops to 2 or 3 years. And the real cost of butane is three times its subsidized price: as subsidy reform advances, the math tilts more and more toward solar.
What happens on cloudy days?
The tank keeps yesterday's hot water, and the built-in electric backup tops it up if needed. You have hot water every day of the year, without thinking about it.
What maintenance should I plan for?
A simple check every year or two: fluid condition on closed-loop systems, the tank anode and the cleanliness of the collector. It is quick and clearly extends the service life.
